Day 18 (July 18)

I had to remind myself last night after reading a few online articles, and watching a couple of videos, that I need to get back to doing some aerobic level (heart rate wise) training.  I noticed all of my runs have been anaerobic since I started back and that is only asking for disaster.  Running slower is really, really, and I mean really tough for me.  I am not saying running slow is a problem, because I naturally do that but intentionally slowing down my pace is torture as I want to go hard and feel like I am not getting a workout in.  However, I have to say I enjoyed todays 4 mile run and it was all in an aerobic state.  I used the focused slowdown as an opportunity to further focus on my form and my breathing.  My target was to sustain a heart rate of 140-150 and I was successful.  I did not require any walking breaks like yesterday when I went out harder and made the 4.4 miles running the whole time (well I guess it would be more like jogging at the pace I was going).

I think I am getting close to finalizing what my training plan is going to be, and depending on how Saturdays long run goes I think I will be able to post the overall training plan. I am definitely going to incorporate threshold (or tempo) runs, hills (via treadmill as I live at sea level where it is flat as a pancake) and aerobic runs for recovery.  I also don't intend to run more than 4 days per week at least for the next month or so, and I plan to leverage the Peloton.

Now back to yesterday, and this morning...for dinner we did Spaghetti with Spaghetti Squash.  I was able to get down around 10pm and woke up at 5am this morning.  Still trying to get myself disciplined enough to get to bed by 9:30pm and up no later than 4:45am.  I had my cup of coffee, read some of the news, checked work email for anything urgent overnight and got my running clothes on.  I sipped on some Gatorade Zero and headed out the door for my run about 6am (when it was just starting to get a little light outside).  Oh that reminds me, I ordered via Amazon this week a new light weight headlamp for early morning runs.  Where I live there are no street lights and it is super dark until sunrise, so I am going to try getting out a little earlier with the new headlamp.  I will test it on Monday and post how well it worked.

As mentioned earlier, the run felt really good and it was not as torturous as I thought it would be.

Todays stats are: 4.4 miles, 45 min overall time, 10:07 pace, 145 BPM HRT
